Be You @ Beghou

60 SECONDS WITH JON JUAN

Senior consultant Jon Juan joined Beghou Consulting’s Evanston office in 2019, after graduating from the University of Notre Dame with a bachelor’s degree in chemical and biomolecular engineering. From learning about the firm’s range of services to using music to stay productive, Jon shares his experience working at Beghou Consulting.

Why did you decide to work at Beghou?
“At Notre Dame, I studied chemical engineering. After graduating college, I knew that I wanted to go into the health care or pharmaceutical industry, but did not want to do research. I was very drawn to the business side of the industry. Beghou Consulting impressed me with its data-driven approach to solving business challenges for life sciences industry clients. The mix of data analytics, solving business challenges and working with the pharmaceutical industry aligned perfectly with what I was looking for in a career.”
What has most surprised you about the job?
“Once I got started at Beghou, I was quickly impressed by the variety of services the firm offers and the range of challenges we help our clients solve. We provide everything from marketing research to sales force design to technology services – and continue to expand our capabilities. With this breadth and depth of expertise, we’re truly able to make a direct impact on our clients’ commercial strategies and help them succeed.”
What are your hobbies?
“I really enjoy musical theater – watching musical film, going to shows and listening to soundtracks. I didn’t participate in musical theater growing up, but I became a fan after watching Glee and now appreciate watching a story unfold through music. Currently, my favorite musical is “Six.” It is the story of the six wives of King Henry VIII, told through a pop concert.”
What does a typical day look like?
“One of the aspects I like most about Beghou is that no two days are alike. I’m always working on multiple projects, all at different stages. So, one day I might be designing a dashboard using Power BI, and another day I might be working on a sales force alignment. I don’t feel like I’m stuck in a rut or the work is monotonous. The structure of work at Beghou allows me to continue to expand my skillsets as I work on new projects.”
What is your favorite travel destination? What is your most comical travel story?
“I studied abroad in London, and since then I’ve returned twice. I’m really drawn to the city’s rich history. But my worst travel story was a trip to Dallas with my dad and sisters to see a Notre Dame football game. Our original flight was canceled due to thunderstorms. So, we tried two different flights on standby, without success. Just when we thought we were going to have some luck with our third standby flight, a transformer exploded near the airport and LaGuardia lost power, forcing everybody to evacuate. We ended up taking an Uber across the city to JFK, staying in a hotel for the evening, and flying out the following morning.”
What is your go-to productivity trick?
“If I have a lot on my plate and need to focus, I put on my headphones and listen to “Two Friends Mixes” while I work. Each mix is an hour long – it is the perfect amount of time to dive in and get work done. When the mix is over, I know it’s been an hour and I should take a quick break.”
